A chilly 25d this morning at 0500. Sun is up and shining brightly now- -almost 1000. Must attend a pre-op plastic surgery appointment at 1345 today, with surgery the 16th. Should be no big deal but gen'l anastesia is administered due to nerve running next to fat-blog on rt. jaw.
Attended Fly Fishing club meeting last nite with Rob. Nice meeting with one video of salmon catching on fly rods from the 1980's.
No serious turning again today. Pulled some sticks out of DNA to dry and opened some bags with ruff bowls. One cherry bowl is cracked badly and all the rest are fine. Weird. Oh well, 1 for 7 isn't too bad.
Condo requests busy and some folks just shopping. P.

Well, a pre-spring day here with temps in the low 60s and sunny until late pm. Clays shooing this morning with mediocre results- 30. A couple stations were outrageously difficult as the course was set for the tournament this weekend. Did manage an 8 for 8 on double birds at one station, including 3 doubles with a single shot!
UB comes home today and will, no doubt, start ordering me around inch by inch.
Back is still bothering me. Have to wonder if it is muscle or kidneys. So be the day. p.

Up early, 0430, with back muscle spasms. Ouch!
Yesterday's big event was the Sporting Clays crowd of 5 guys, John being the new guy. He did well with some unconventional style points. Not at all bad 21 for a beginner. Cold and windy out there and some shots were funny as the birds would get tossed high and low by wind currents. Such is life in the outdoors. Pic is of a 14 in red ash platter I did recently. Gave it to CL for Christmas. She will put it to good use in SFO.

Oh, its a bit chilly this morning - -30d. Going shooting sporting clays with 5 friends, including a new shooter, John, and the return of one ole boy who has been absent for a year - -. Hope he is back to normal.
Been turning wood like a madman. Mostly small stuff to get used to the tools again. Couple nice finials and some small boxes of walnut. Amazing figure and color. Wood from Jon's gunstock scrap pile. Amazing stuff.
Time to run for the car. P.

Cold wet rain and 34d. this morning. Expect to do little turning work today altho I did get a nice finial out of a piece of walnut. Will apply to some other bobble.
Need to get some pics of my "cheap face plates" for posting on the AAW web site. Using modern construction beams and recessing a steel nut into the multi-ply makes good sense and is cheap.

Shot Sporting Clays this morning with Bob P. Awful results! Better nxt yr maybe.
May try that screwdriver project on the lathe today. AAW magazine has a good article on how to do it. Will follow and change as necessary.

Need to makes some appointments and take care of some other personal business this morning.
Must tell Cheryl about the salad receipt that B wants. Not sure where that is stored.
Turned a beautiful shallow bowl the other day and need to take some pics and post them. Jon walked in last night and said it was ash. I assumed it was white oak since it came off a log I cut- -- but I could be wrong. (Would not be the first time!)
Submitted an article on cheap faceplates to the AAW website yesterday. By using a commercially available steel nut and imbedding it in a construction multi-ply about 2 in thick using epoxy, you can then create many faceplates of different sizes, all of which have the correct size threads for your lathe. First entry on this/any blog. Temp was 28d earlier. Bright sun now will warm the world.
Got some free cherry tree log sections from Rob yesterday. Gave a bunch to John as he needs some good wood for practice.
more late.

Daily Report

Brrr, cold this morning, 28d. Bright sun will soon warm us up to mid 40s. Expect to do some woodturning later today but must get the boat ready for winter.
Turned some nice Christmas ornaments yesterday. Using crepe myrtle that was given to me by a friend.
Got a bunch of cherry tree pieces - -short log sections - -from Rob yesterday and gave some to John as he needs to develop some skills after getting a bunch of lessons (free) from me.
More later.
